A world champion runner's career has come to an end due to a rare heart condition. The condition, diagnosed as Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy, led to cardiac arrest during a race. This diagnosis means returning to running would be unsafe.

The runner had been pacing a group when she collapsed and received emergency treatment, including CPR and use of a defibrillator.

Further information about the runner's condition and decision to stop running is available from her personal statement.
